The need for IT Governance and COBIT

IT Governance has become a challenge to a lot of industries in the last couple of years. IT Governance has been established as a probable means to avoid damage to companies due to fraud and negligence. Thus the interest in IT Governance is partly due to compliance initiatives (e.g. Sarbanes-Oxley and Basel II), as well as the acknowledgement that IT can get out of control and affect the performance of an organisation. IT Governance is also currently seen as method that enables corporations to achieve their business goals and avoid costs.

noventum consulting sees IT Governance as a set of responsibilities and practices exercised by the board and executive management with the goal of

  • Providing strategic direction
  • Aligning business and IT
  • Ensuring that objectives are achieved
  • Assuring that risks are managed appropriately
  • Verifying that the enterprises ressources are used responsibly

The COBIT framework is intended to achieve the IT Governance goals. It has been developed by the IT Governance Institute & ISACA and has wide international acceptance. In the Turkish Financial Services Industries COBIT has gained a high significance since the BDDK requires COBIT as the standard for auditing processes. COBIT as a maturity management model consists of 34 high-level control objectives, one for each IT process, contained in four domains.

noventum consulting delivers services to develop, establish and audit governance policies. Also we support our clients to implement compliance requirements. That means, we

  • prepare IT Audits
  • Implement compliance according to the legal framework
  • Implement governance policies

Additionally noventum helps to fulfil the results of COBIT by implementing IT service processes according to the best practice de-facto standard ITIL. Within our ITIL consultancy, which is covered later in the brochure, you will find that ITIL and COBIT share the common goal to help corporations in achieving their business goals.
